Originally from Tatamagouche, Nova Scotia, Julie has travelled extensively throughout Canada and the United States but has never lost connection with her roots on Nova Scotia’s North Shore.
"I have been teaching fiddle for almost as long as I can remember. I have had the privilege of working with people from all walks of life and I never get tired of helping people to discover a new talent or accomplish something that has always been on their bucket list".
Julie was honoured to receive the Governor General's medal for achieving the highest academic standing on campus at her June 2022 Nova Scotia Community College graduation.
Julie was honoured to be chosen as the recipient of the Tara Lynne Touesnard Award for 2020. Due to COVID-19 restrictions the award presentation was delayed until May 2021. Scroll down to watch the virtual awards presentation.
This is a fun swing tune I learned from one of my all time favourite fiddlers, the legendary Carl Elliott.
This video aired on CTV in the late 1990's. I was a very shy, nervous teenager :)
This tune was composed by my dear friend Emily Kierstead. Emily's vibrant daughter Lisa McCully was one of the precious lives tragically taken in the Portapique, Nova Scotia, tragedy in April of 2020. 💔 Lisa was a bright light in the lives of those who knew her, including myself and my daughter, Ashlyn, who benefited from Lisa's passion as a dedicated, loving teacher. The tune is called 'A Lament for Humanity'. This video was originally recorded as part of a fundraiser last year.
...because some days we all just need a little hallelujah...❤
So fortunate to have these amazing musicians to share the stage with!
